- Vincenzo Maltempo



     

  Considerato “uno dei più interessanti pianisti italiani della sua generazione” (La Stampa), Vincenzo Maltempo è nato nel 1985 e si avvicina alla musica e al pianoforte fin dalla tenera età; diplomatosi nel Luglio 2005 con il massimo dei voti e la lode al Conservatorio "S. Cecilia" di Roma, sotto la guida di Salvatore Orlando, si è in seguito perfezionato con il Maestro Riccardo Risaliti presso l'Accademia Pianistica "Incontri col maestro" di Imola, seguendo master class di diversi musicisti, tra i quali Z. Kocsis, O. Marshev, J. Soriano, R. Levin, V. Aschenazy. I suoi interessi musicali spaziano dal Barocco al Moderno, con una particolare attenzione alla produzione di compositori meno conosciuti. Affascinato dalla trascrizione d'autore egli stesso ha composto alcune trascrizioni di importanti lavori orchestrali (fra i quali figurano opere di G. Mahler, H. Rott, M. Ravel), di prossima pubblicazione.

   Nel Novembre 2006 vince il primo premio al prestigioso concorso pianistico "Premio Venezia", tenutosi al teatro “La Fenice” di Venezia, con lusinghieri apprezzamenti di pubblico e critica. Scrive Lorenzo Arruga: “ha un atteggiamento affettuoso per gli autori e la musica, un tocco caldo, un fraseggio libero quanto basta per parlare musicalmente a tu per tu col pubblico; quasi un poco all’antica, ma senza enfasi e a suo agio tanto in Chopin quanto negli Impressionisti”; in seguito a questo successo ha intrapreso una serie di concerti in Italia e in Europa (Spagna, Austria, Germania, Inghilterra). Ha suonato e collaborato con il pianista Francesco Libetta nell'ambito del "Miami Piano Festival in Lecce" (nelle Edizioni 2005 - 2007 – 2009) e della “Sagra musicale malatestiana” di Rimini, e ha tenuto recital per l'Associazione "Opere" al Castello Odescalchi di Bracciano, per gli "Amici della Musica" di Isernia, Barletta, Mestre, Vicenza, Arezzo, Belluno, Asolo, Taranto, Padova, nell'ambito del "Bologna Festival" e per gli "Amici del Teatro Massimo" di Palermo; il 2 Giugno 2007 ha tenuto un importante recital solistico al Teatro “La Fenice” di Venezia, in cui è tornato a Novembre suonando il Primo Concerto di Chopin con l’orchestra del teatro “La Fenice”; in seguito ha eseguito concerti per pianoforte e orchestra con l’“Orchestra Sinfonica Giovanile del Piemonte” e l’“Orchestra Filarmonica di Bacau”, collaborando con direttori d’orchestra come Paolo Olmi, Ovidiu Balan, Bartholomeus Van de Velde, Claudio Maria Micheli. Nell'Agosto 2008 si è esibito in concerto al Padiglione Italiano durante l'Expo Internazionale di Saragozza e nell'Ottobre dello stesso anno ha vinto il primo premio al Concorso Internazionale “F. Liszt” di Grottammare.

  Ha registrato per la trasmissione “Il pianista” negli studi di “Radio Classica” di Milano (trasmesso in diretta) la trascrizione per pianoforte solo di Ch. V. Alkan del primo movimento del Terzo Concerto per pianoforte e Orchestra di L. van Beethoven.  Il 2011 segna la data di un importante debutto, quello al Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, con un recital solistico dedicato a F. Liszt - “A Maltempo tutto sembra venire con estrema facilità, [...] con un virtuosismo “trascendentale” che non trascura neppure una singola nota. Scava con puntiglio la densità torrenziale della scrittura lisztiana, arrivando ad una chiarezza che ne spolpa gli eccessi. Brillante, nitido, scrupoloso nella pedalizzazione, rimane consapevole in ogni dettaglio anche laddove il barocchismo romantico di Liszt si fa più nervoso e magmatico. Un prodigio da tener presente.”(Gabriele Balloi). Sempre nel 2011 gli è stata conferita una borsa di studio dall’“Associazione Richard Wagner di Venezia”, che gli ha permesso di assistere alle recite wagneriane al Festspielehaus di Bayreuth e di approfondire la conoscenza dello stile e delle opere del compositore tedesco, esibendosi inoltre con il baritono Filippo Bettoschi e il tenore Marcello Nardis allo “Stadthalle” di Bayreuth con lieder di Mahler e Schumann.

Nel 2008 incide il suo primo disco, per la casa discografica austriaca “Gramola” con musiche di F. Liszt  (presentandolo con un concerto alla Bosendorfersaal di Vienna), lavoro molto apprezzato dalla critica che ne esalta “l'infallibile istinto per l'equilibrio e la bellezza di suono: non sentivamo interpretare una "Réminescences de Norma" con così perfetto fraseggio e con un così sensuale "belcanto" da tanto tempo.” (R. Nemecek, Piano news). E’ in previsione l’uscita per la casa discografica londinese “PianoClassics” un nuovo disco dedicato interamente al compositore francese Ch. V. Alkan, compositore romantico a lui particolarmente caro che solo in tempi recente sta conoscendo una vera rinascita, dopo un lungo periodo di oblio cui sono state relegate le sue opere – mastodontiche costruzioni sonore dal virtuosismo trascendentale e dalla considerevole estensione.

 Vincenzo Maltempo was born in 1985 in Italy and has began to study piano since he was a child.

 After obtaining the diploma in classical studies at High School, he graduated Summa Cum Laude in Piano from Conservatoire of "Santa Cecilia" in Rome, studying with M° Salvatore Orlando. After he studyed with M° Riccardo Risaliti at the International Accademy "Incontri col Maestro" in Imola, attending to master classes of important pianists like Z. Kocsis, O. Marshev, J. Soriano, R. Levin and others.

 
His repertoire includes masterpieces from Baroque to the Modern Age, with special attention to lesser known composers. He is fascinated, in particular, by the music of Franz Liszt, whose spiritual and philosophical elements, as well as descriptive and orchestral pianism, have influenced his artistic awareness. A considerable portion of his repertoire is dedicated to the transcriptions (he also trascribed some orchestral and chambers works). In September 2011 he will play for the “Festspiele Südtirol-Alto Adige Festival” his trascription of the “Symphony in E Major” by Hans Rott, commissioned to him from the Austrian conductor Gustav Kuhn, with which he collaborates.

 

He has won many first prizes in National and International Competitions for young pianists. In particular, in November 2006 he was the First Prize Winner of one of the most prestigious competitions in Italy, the "Premio Venezia", held in the theater “La Fenice”, receiving rave reviews from the public and critics alike. In October 2008 he won the First Prize in the “International F. Liszt Piano Competition” in Grottammare (Italy).

 

He's invited for concerts in Spain, Austria and England; in Italy he played and collaborated with the pianist Francesco Libetta for the “Miami Piano Festival in Lecce” (2005 - 2007 - 2009 Editions) and, among the others performances, he played for the “Opere Festival” in the Odescalchi Castel in Bracciano, Rome (2006 and 2008), for Music Associations in Barletta, Padova, Vicenza, Mestre, Arezzo, Belluno, Asolo, Taranto, for the "Mario Ghislandi Festival" in Crema, for the "Bologna Festival" and the “Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna”, for the "Amici del Teatro Massimo" in Palermo and the “Autunno musicale di Caserta”; in July 2007 he played the Beethoven Concerto n. 1 in Barletta for the "Beethoven Piano Concertos festival” with the “Philarmonic Bacau Orchestra” and in Febrary 2011 the Mozart Piano Concerto k. 450 with the “Orchestra Giovanile del Piemonte”, conducted by Bartholomeus-Henri Van de Velde; he attended an important solistic recital in June 2007 at the Theatre "La Fenice" in Venice, where – in November of that year – he performed the Chopin First Concerto conducted by Paolo Olmi. In August 2008 he was selected to represent the young Italian pianists at the “International Saragozza Expò 2008”, playing a featured concert in the Italian Pavillion.
He played live for "Radio Classica" the rare Ch. V. Alkan transcription for Piano solo of the "Beethoven Piano Concerto No.3, Op.37 1st movement, with Cadenza".

In March 2011 he has debuted at the “Teatro Lirico” in Cagliari with a Liszt solo recital.

 He has recorded a CD for the Austrian label “Gramola” dedicated to Liszt, that is enjoying an enthusiastic critical success. “Nowadays when everybody tries to clean Liszt from the stigma of virtuosity only, it almost seems to be a provocation when a pianist puts paraphrases in the center of his Liszt program [...]; pianist Vincenzo Maltempo [...] seems not to share this view. He, on the contrary, shows respect and admiration to these works and gives back their musical dignity. The Norma Paraphrase has not been interpreted so perfectly phrased and with such sensual „belcanto“ since a long time. Even the Tarantella di Bravura after Auber's “La muette de Portici” does not seem to be only a circus number. Of course, it swooshes and thunders tremendously also in Maltempo's interpretation because he owns fabulous pianistic skills and an extraordinary caracterful Boesendorfer. But differently to other interpreters this theatrical thunder is embedded by a thoughtful dramaturgy which the young italian materializes with an infallible instinct for balance and beauty of sound [...].” (Piano News)

In 2012 he will release a new CD for the “Piano Classics” label, dedicated to the French composer Ch. V. Alkan.

   Vincenzo Maltempo wurde 1985 in Italien geboren und begann bereits im Alter von drei Jahren Klavier zu spielen. Nach Klavierstudien bei Professor Salvatore Orlando absolvierte er das Konservatorium „Santa Cecilia“ in Rom „summa cum laude“. Danach studierte er an der internationalen Akademie „Incontri col maestro“ in Imola bei Riccardo Risaliti und besuchte zugleich Meisterklassen bei Vovka Ashkenazya, Joaquin Soriano, Marcello Abbado, Zoltán Kocsis, Oleg Marshev und Robert Levin.

 

 

Sein umfangreiches Repertoire umfasst Kompositionen vom Barock bis zur Moderne. Er gewann zahlreiche erste Preise bei nationalen und internationalen Klavierwettbewerben, darunter den renommierten „Premio Venezia“. Sein besonderes Interesse gilt Franz Liszt, dessen Interpretation ihm den ersten Preis beim Liszt-Wettbewerb in Grottamare einbrachte.

 

 

 

 

2009 spielte er für Gramola, Wien, Werke von Franz Liszt ein (Gramola 98861). R.Nemecek schrieb in „piano News“: „In einer Zeit, in der man darauf bedacht ist, Liszt vom Makel des reinen Virtuosentums reinzuwaschen, mutet es fast schon wie eine Provokation an, wenn ein Pianist ausgerechnet die Paraphrasen ins Zentrum seines Liszt Programms stellt. Der Pianist Vincenzo Maltempo scheint diese Ansicht nicht zu teilen. Vielmehr begegnet er diesen Werken mit Respekt und Bewunderung, er gibt ihnen gewissermaßen ihre musikalische Würde zurück. Die Norma Paraphrase hat man schon lange nicht so sorgfältig ausphrasiert und mit einem so sinnlich-markanten Belcanto gehört. Sogar die mit allerlei virtuosen Kunststücken ausgestattete „Tarantella die bravura“ nach Aubers „Die Stumme von Portici“ erweckt nie den Eindruck einer reinen Zirkusnummer. Natürlich rauscht und donnert es auch bei Maltempo, der über ein formidables pianistisches Rüstzeug und einen außerordentlich charaktervollen Bösendorfer verfügt, zuweilen gewaltig. Aber anders als bei vielen anderen ist der Theaterdonner eingebettet in eine durchdachte Dramaturgie, die der Italiener mit einem untrüglichen Sinn für Balance und Klangschönheit zu verwirklichen versteht.“

 

 

 

 

Im März 2011 schrieb die Kritik anlässlich seines Liszt- Solokonzert im Teatro Lirico in Cagliari „…bei Maltempo scheint alles einfach: Er spielt mit einer himmlischen Virtuosität, die nicht eine einzige Note vernachlässigt.“ Im September 2011 präsentiert er im Rahmen der Südtiroler Festspiele seine eigene Transkription von Werken von Gustav Mahler und Hans Rott, unter der Leitung des Dirigenten Gustav Kuhn. 2012 spielt er für das Label „Piano Classics“ eine CD ein mit Werken von Ch. V. Alkan.
